Chocolate And Zucchini $12.88 Clotilde Dusoulier is a twenty-seven-year-old Parisian who loves to share her passion for all things food-related—recipes, inspirations, restaurant experiences, and above all the lush pleasure to be discovered in cooking with the fresh ingredients found in her local Montmartre shops. But her love affair with food was born not in her mother’s Parisian kitchen; it blossomed in San Francisco, where she moved after college and became infatuated with the new world of tastes on offer. When she returned to her beloved France, her passion for food inspired her to share her culinary exploits in her blog ChocolateandZucchini.com, which has garnered Dusoulier more than 4.5 million hits a month and an enormous following of 140,000 unique visitors each month, half of whom are from North America. In Chocolate & Zucchini, Dusoulier provides a glimpse into the life of a young Parisian as she savors all that the city has to offer. An endearing companion, she shares her cooking philosophy in the form of more than 75 recipes that call for the natural, healthy ingredients of which she is fond (such as zucchini) and the satisfying tastes she craves ( such as chocolate). The Los Angeles Times calls her recipes simple, charming, and fun. Appetizers such as Tuna and Green Apple Mousse or Cumin Cheese Puffs, sandwiches and tarts like Tomato Tatin, soups like Chestnut and Mushroom, main dishes of Mustard Chicken Stew or Hand-Cut Steak Tartare, and desserts like Chocolate and Caramel Tart or Yogurt Cake can all be found alongside menus for entertaining, as well as tips for throwing cocktail or dinner parties with French flair. Illustrated throughout with Dusoulier’s evocative photography, Chocolate & Zucchini is the book for anyone who has journeyed to Paris and can still recall the delicious tastes and aromas—or for those of us who only dream about them. |

Recipes $22.01 2006 IACP Award Winner: General Category! Preface by Martha Stewart. Recipes. Cooking all comes down to the recipes -- those ingredient-by-ingredient, technique-by-technique, step-by-step instructions. In Recipes, Susan Spungen, founding food editor and editorial director for food at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia for twelve years, presents her own easy, unfettered ideas for cooking simple food rich with freshness and flavors to share with family and friends. Recipes is organized by technique, explaining why sautéing is great for two or four but when feeding a crowd braising is the better choice. Prepare focuses on the basics, from making a vinaigrette to roasting garlic and peppers. Chop includes not just salads, but gazpacho and a Provençal sandwich that requires knife skills. Sauté explains how to pan-sear fish and make a layered omelet. Grill shows proper techniques for cooking scallops, asparagus, and steak over an open fire. Roast offers the perfect roast chicken and a roasted squash salad. Bake features a variety of pizzas as well as mushrooms baked in parchment paper. Simmer and Braise coaxes the most flavors from soups and lamb shanks. Finally, there's Indulge, a selection of desserts from simple brownies and peach melba to a fruit crisp and a rich chocolate cake. Susan believes that one of the most pleasurable parts of a meal should be the making of it. Recipes encourages home cooks to become confident cooks. |

The Low-Carb Cookbook $5.22 Millions of people with weight problems have discovered that all roads to successful weight loss do not begin with the low-fat diet. For most overweight people, in fact, a high-protein, low-carbohydrate plan is the preferred regimen to correct a metabolic imbalance, the source of the problem. While this eating plan runs counter to all the proscriptions of government nutritionists, it has proven to be not only a safe but also highly effective method of weight reduction and the basis for a lifetime of good health. Because turning to low-carb eating is like learning a new kitchen language, McCullough begins the book with an invaluable checklist of pantry essentials as well as creative substitutes for foods you may be missing (like mashed potatoes), and tradeoffs for those times when you do crave a carbo indulgence. The heart of the book, though, is the dozens of wonderful recipes for every course, from appetizers like a Mexican Shrimp Cocktail to an easy and extraordinary Cream of Mushroom Soup, from a Middle Eastern Lamb Salad to Nut-Crusted Swordfish, from vegetable dishes like Roasted Potato Skins and Zucchini Pasta to desserts like Berries with Trembling Cream and a made-in-moments Chocolate Mousse. |
