Whether or not you have lived in Chicago Illinois all your life or a recent transplant, with the summer approaching again there are some fantastic events, you can experience the city. Many are free, so if you do not worry about taking pleasure in a bite of your budget. Even if you've been to some of them before they even bother to again, and if you bring a child, elderly parent, family member or friend who has not had the pleasure before being even more fun for you to see through their eyes.
Perhaps most is known and the biggest event of the Christkindlmarket in Chicago. This festival spectacular annual festival is a great German-American who runs from November 27 to December 24 in Daly Plaza. The hours are Sunday to Thursday 11 to 8pm Friday and Saturday from 11am to 9pm, although stressing that they close early at 4pm on the 24th, which is Christmas Eve. Admission is free, you can not beat the price.
Many people go to Christkindlmarket just to walk and experience the sights and sounds. There are artisans and merchants of every imaginable kind, from different cultures around the world, and you can find the most unique gifts here. It's almost like making a quick trip around the world and sample the sights, smells and foods without leaving Chicago. You'll also see the city Christmas tree.
Some of the items you find on the market are the old handmade toys, blown glass ornaments, cuckoo clocks from Germany, jewelry, clothing and everything you can imagine. The food choices are equally varied with all kinds of holiday cookies and candies, roasted nuts, gingerbread, brats and sauerkraut, pork dishes, hot chocolate and mulled wine. You can also watch demonstrations of crafts like glass blowing and working wood. Here live music to put you in the holiday spirit and many activities and rides for children.
On a larger scale small but very pleasant, there is the Lincoln Square Christkindl market that runs 5 to 7 December. Admission is free and you'll experience the holiday atmosphere with festive holiday music online, the German food like brats and apple strudel, check the sellers of many gifts with one-of-a-kind and crafts. Children can participate in a cookie and craft session and the lights are lit on the tree on December 6.
On December 13 and 14, you can enjoy a journey through time at Glessner House Museum with its historical Vacations, Tours Bazaar and Candlelight on Prairie Avenue. The Holiday Bazaar is free to attend and hours of operation are from 12pm to 7pm on those dates. You can gift shop from a selection arts and crafts, antiques, candy, jewelry and many other goods.
The historic event will be held Christmas from 1pm to 4pm these dates at the Museum. Admission is $ 2.00 per adult and $ 10.00 per child. participants will be invited to a sleigh ride with horses and experience a Victorian holiday period games, crafts lessons, stories, music and even get to see Santa.
Then you can take a candlelight tour of the Museum at 5:30 pm, 6:00 pm, 6:30 pm or 7pm on the dates above. The Tickets are $ 18.00 per adult and $ 14.00 per child. The program is an hour and a half and gives a detailed overview of the holidays and traditions of trees and ending mistletoe with an example of a traditional holiday meal.
If you like the outdoors fresh air, the Chicago Park District hosts dozens of holiday and winter events near the site at all parks in the city. The hours are too long to enumerate here, but you can check with their website for specific events, places and dates. Everything from music concerts, plays, craft classes, ice skating and of course visits with Santa are planned.
The annual Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light Museum of Science and Industry will be held from 14th November 2008 to January 4, 2009. You do not need to be a bit of science to benefit event. This is the 75th anniversary of the Museum and they celebrate in style. Tons of decorations, itinerant singers, a superb 45 foot trees decorated with 50 different other decorated trees are all waiting to be known. The entry is the entry price Standard Museum.
You can always count on the Millennium Park ice skating for some great exercise and fun this winter. The ice open from November 19th to March 15th, from 10am to 10pm, then you can go just about anywhere. The rink will be closed at 4pm and if Thanksgiving Day Christmas. Admission is free and if you need you can rent skates for $ 9.00.
Chicago is packed with excitement and events throughout the year, and winter months are no exception. If you already live here, you probably do not have any problems finding something fun to do, but rather to decide among all the possibilities.
