Chocolate Rations
Anyone prefer American chocolate to British/European chocolate?
I had a Hershey Bar, do people seriously like eating that stuff - it tastes like war rations! Why does US chocolate taste so different to anywhere else in the world?
I suppose because the main ingredient of this chocolate isn't chocolate but sugar. The total amout of chocolate (cocoa and cocoa butter put together) seldom rises above 35 %. In France, this stuff wouldn't even be allowed to be named chocolate.
It's so disgusting I have to make my own chocolate : I buy bittersweet or pure chocolate, I melt it with butter, sometimes cream and add sugar and yolks. I let it cool down and form truffles that I coat with unsweetened pure cocoa powder. THAT's the real stuff. It's so much tastier. Plus it's so much healthier...
