Why do I have chocolate cravings?

Chocolate is packed with antioxidants and certain nutrients, including iron, copper, magnesium and potassium. Your body needs more of these nutrients in May and crave chocolate as a response.

In addition to this, chocolate contains phenylethylamine, which controls oxytocin and endorphins, the two that will give you a sense of well-being and even euphoria.

Chocolate also contains anandamide, a chemical that acts like THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. This, in addition to increasing endorphins in the brain when you eat chocolate explains why you crave chocolate.

Craving chocolate during your period can be explained by the fact that chocolate contains a large amount of iron (more than in beef liver). Your body needs extra iron during this time, so desire.

The chocolate is really dangerous or addictive?

Yes, chocolate seems to be mildly addictive due to brain stimulants mentioned above. I would not really dangerous, but you must do attention to your consumption of chocolate, and make good choices in the type of chocolate you eat. Chocolate addiction may be the best kind because you can easily controlled by what you eat.

Dark chocolate is more beneficial to your health. Stick to dark chocolate bittersweet quality that uses beans cocoa are also unprocessed as possible. The best way to curb chocolate cravings is restraint and adhere to health dark chocolate that contains too many antioxidants.

Craving chocolate is also often an indication of a lack of certain nutrients like iron, copper, magnesium and potassium. Let's see what other foods you should eat to ensure you have enough of these nutrients.

Iron - eating brown rice, whole wheat, liver, beets and dates

Copper - Eating nuts (cashew nuts in particular), sunflower seeds, chickpeas, liver and oysters

Magnesium - eat peanuts, tofu, broccoli, spinach and soybeans

Potassium - Eating apricots, wheat bran, raisins, figs and baked potato with skin

I understand that sometimes you just eat chocolate and the idea of eating tofu or a slice of bread wheat world just will not work. Take a small piece of dark chocolate quality and taste. Take your time, really taste the chocolate melting in your mouth and enjoy it without feeling guilty. This should take care of your thirst and keep you from binging on a box of Hershey's bars.
