Chocolate Brain Chemistry

Why do we have sudden cravings for food?
No pregnancy is just as sudden (male and female) for pinching ... "Ooh, I do have a bit of chocolate / a can of soda pop / A pickled onions "Is it something in our chemistry? our brains? Our moods? ETA: Good point, HIL - I think it's because we salivate when we feel something we know (or remember or to associate the smell with) something is "good" to eat. Maybe we had something that have tasted or smelt like, and then our minds are a logical extension - 'smells like bacon, Bacon I wanted, I may like this. "And we are indeed conditioned by our experiences with food, so why babies are introduced to so many tastes as soon as possible. I always hated grapes. A "learned" response - I was sick one day, people me offered grapes, a new food: I was sick again, because of my illness. But I never liked the grapes from that day since. Pavolv and the Pavlovian response?
Well .. I guess that's all the foregoing. And when our body lacks a vitamin or calories such. It will make you crave a certain food that could have a high percentage of whatever your body needs. But if you have been dumped or had something tragic happen to you. It makes you feel like your favorite foods soothing. This is not always chocolate or ice cream. It's just what your body thinks it can help. (Not sure. I think.) So, I suppose, that his body is telling you that your missing something. My question for you is: Why does our mouth water when I smell delicious? Even if we havent ever eaten before. We just thought suddenly, mmmm that feels good? Especially if you do not like the texture or the flavor of that food. However, your mouth is all upitty you yearn for food, even if its gross? (:

Chocolate $9.8 New in paperback! 2006 IACP Award Winner: Literary Food Writing Category! A delectable journey into the world of chocolate--from manufacturing to marketing, French boutiques to American multinationals--by the award-winning author of Olives. Science, over recent years, has confirmed what chocolate lovers have always known: the stuff is actually good for you. It's the Valentine's Day drug of choice, has more antioxidants than red wine, and triggers the same brain responses as falling in love. Nothing, in the end, can stand up to chocolate as a basic fundament to human life. In this scintillating narrative, acclaimed foodie Mort Rosenblum delves into the complex world of chocolate. From the mole poblano--chile-laced chicken with chocolate--of ancient Mexico to the contemporary French chocolatiers who produce the palets d'or--bite-sized, gold-flecked bricks of dark chocolate--to the vast empires of Hershey, Godiva, and Valrhona, Rosenblum follows the chocolate trail the world over. He visits cacao plantations, meets with growers, buyers, makers, and tasters, and investigates the dark side of the chocolate trade as well as the enduring appeal of its product. Engaging, entertaining, and revealing, Chocolate: A Bittersweet Saga of Dark and Light is a fascinating foray into this food of the gods. |
